Welcome to Power Walking Ministries, where every step we take is towards spreading happiness and love through the gift of shoes. Founded in 2007 by Wendy Jones, a dedicated physical education teacher and passionate advocate for children’s well-being, our nonprofit has touched the lives of thousands in Brunswick County and beyond.
Wendy’s journey began with a simple yet powerful belief: “Good shoes bring good things in a child’s life.” Inspired by Romans 10:15, she envisioned a ministry that not only provides new athletic shoes and socks to students but also supports local shelters and recreational programs. With a heart for healing and wholeness through Jesus Christ, Wendy leads by example, sharing her faith through music, ministry, and community outreach.
Our Story
Based in Southport, NC, Wendy Jones has been a pillar of her community for over three decades. As a loving wife, mother of two accomplished daughters, and educator at Southport Elementary School, Wendy’s commitment to service extends beyond the classroom. Her experiences as a former Miss Brunswick County and finalist in the Miss N.C. pageant in 1990, as well as a contemporary Christian music artist, shape her approach to ministry—where every act, including the gift of shoes, becomes an instrument of faith and joy.

At Power Walking Ministries, our mission is clear and our methods are compassionate
School Support: Providing shoes and socks to all Brunswick County students in need, ensuring safety and participation in school activities.
Referral-Based: Shoes are distributed upon referral by educators, counselors, social workers, or administrators, ensuring they reach children who need them most.
Athletic Focus: Emphasizing the importance of proper footwear for school sports, promoting both physical health and self-confidence.
